Last year I took a policy class that is required for all junior social work majors. This class really challenged me and helped me learn how to become familiarized with legislatures, bills, policies, and provided me with a wonderful experience to the Capitol Building located in Des Moines, IA.
I followed the Arizona Immigration Law and created a presentation which was part of my learning experience.
However, my main policy presentation was on the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM ACT). This policy class helped me identify my strengths as a social worker, but also helped me learn how to turn my weaknesses into strengths to become a better advocate for those who are underrepresented.
